Amanda from Bangin Bodz on Mindfulness & Why She Doesn’t Rely on Motivation!

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am the CEO of Awesome at Bangin’ Bodz Health and fitness and BBHQ, I am also a dream chaser, qualified yoga instructor and vegan.


Let’s get straight down to business, we want to know what form of meditation do you prefer!

My meditation practice is varied.  Sometimes I sit in silence for a few minutes, sometimes I will do meditation with my yoga practice and other times I will do guided meditation.  I really love doing guided meditation with a beautiful instructor.  It really helps me relax and be present in the meditation.  I always feel the most relaxed after an amazing guided meditation.


What are some changes you’ve noticed in your life since beginning your mindfulness journey?

I am a stress-head, worrier and suffer from anxiety!  Since I have started meditation, yoga, regular meditation, affirmations and also journaling I feel much more centred and balanced.  I have stopped living in my head and in fear and am much happier, healthier and don’t hold back (as much).  It has helped me be more successful in business and feel more well-rounded and balanced as a human being.  I also feel more intuitive.


We all need some crazy powerful stress-busting tools and techniques – we would love to hear works for you!

Stopping and breathing is one of the best stress-busting tools.  Also I love putting on a good song and singing my heart out in my lovely off-key voice… if nothing else it makes me smile.


Have you always been into wellness or was there a light-bulb moment that sparked your health journey?

I was super active when I was younger.  I was a competitive swimmer and competed in surf life saving.  Then in my late teens I wanted to have fun, party and just be crazy so I went a bit off track and in my mid-twenties I kinda woke up overweight, sick and exhausted.  I felt like an 80 year old women trapped in a 25 year olds body.  I had arthritis, chronic fatigue, anxiety, bad skin, and felt terrible.  I didn’t know who I was any more so I had to put my health first and it has been an amazing journey back to health and wellness.


What’s your favourite daily health ritual?

A morning walk on the beach.  There is nothing better than being close to the ocean with my pup and my partner walking and starting the day out in the sunshine.


How do you manage to stay motivated both in your personal life and work life, even on those mediocre, flat days?

Motivation is a fickle thing.  I have trained myself not to rely on it… having a routine and creating habits is far more important.  Some days I just want to stay in bed all day, even though I love my life.  But I have dreams and things I want to accomplish so I focus on the outcome, not how I feel in the moment.  Plus, I always make sure to put some down time into my routine so I can bribe myself to hang in until that.  You need to have a big WHY!  A big life purpose, if you have that and get in the right mindset you can accomplish anything. My favourite books about this are Think & Grow Rich, Unstoppable and The Miracle Morning.


This has been great, any other words of wisdom to pass onto us?

I was a law clerk on a career path that was great, and eventually would bring the standard definition of success.  I decided it wasn’t for me, so I traded it all in to create my dream life.  Don’t be afraid to be bold and take a chance with your life.  You only get one shot, and I promise you that you will figure it all out!
