Who we are and what we do

THE TMC STORY IS A DELIGHTFUL ONE, AND ONE THAT WE HOPE WILL GROW MORE AND MORE OVER TIME – BRANCHING INTO CHAPTERS, NOVELS AND CHEEKY PODCAST EPISODES. IT’S A STORY THAT I AM SO PROUD TO SHARE.

Welcome to The Mindful Collective! I’m Amy Kate, director and principal psychologist. At TMC, we apply an entrepreneurial approach when advocating for wellbeing practices; across multiple platforms and through many innovative product creations and service delivery models. I invite you to join our collective in whatever capacity nourishes your soul – whether that be through our socials channels, coming to our events, joining our workshops, or spending time with our wonderful therapists one-on-one.

It devastates me to see people suffering unnecessarily, and often just because they haven’t found the right tools, strategies or perspectives that suit them, or their challenges in life. Everyone is unique – a one size fits all strategy just doesn’t cut it. Advocating for the use of mindfulness and compassion (including other wonderful stress-management techniques) and making them beautiful, accessible and relatable is what continues to inspire the development of The Mindful Collective.

DIRECTOR/PSYCHOLOGIST EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL
MPSYCH (ED & DEV) / BPSYCH (HONS) / MAPS / MAAPI
UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND ADJUNCT LECTURER

As the founder of TMC, I’m passionate about applying evidence-based practice to help people thrive with gritty self-compassion. Unsurprisingly, I believe self-care is more than just having a bubble bath! In both individual and group psychological therapy I apply a mindful and compassionate approach. I’m also the Director of Curriculum for ALLKND the charity. In fact, TMC co-designed ALLKND’s life saving, first-of-its-kind, peer-to-peer mental health training: Brain Pilot and are OG supporters of Good Mate Day, which we celebrate on May 3rd each year. If you have a curious mind check out @amykate_psychologist on instagram or search ‘Amy Kate’ on whichever podcast app you listen to. PS: I often hear questions about the role of a Psychologist so here is the Australian Psychological Society’s Charter of Psychologists.

MAAPI

Hi! I’m Caitlin, I am a Psychologist at the Mindful Collective. I am passionate about developmental and neuropsychology as well as working together to achieve your therapeutic goals. I draw from an eclectic framework working with a range of theories.
My therapy approach is very person-centred, I really value empowerment and knowledge holding these values in mind for each individual I work with. I have a strong interest in working with anxiety, ADHD, OCD and perinatal presentations. At TMC I am currently accepting adolescents and young adults.

When I am not exploring my interests in psychology you can find me watching paranormal, conspiracy and treasure hunting videos.

Hello, it’s lovely meet you! I’m Hannah, the newest psychologist at The Mindful Collective. Coming from a background in counselling psychology, I have a big focus on approaching care from a compassionate and client-centred perspective. I believe it is a privilege to walk beside people as they traverse their journey and aim to support and empower them to flourish in whatever ways make sense. I draw from several different approaches, collaborating with people to choose the therapeutic framework that will best suit their needs. Although I work with a variety of populations, I particularly enjoy working with adolescents and young adults.

THERAPY DOG

with THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA

I am TMC’s OG Therapy Dog, trained and accredited through Therapy Dogs Australia. I encourage everyone to accept (even love) themselves as much as I love myself! I’m a keen cuddler and love a nap. When my mum / handler starts a therapy session without me (usually because I’m sunbaking elsewhere in the studio) I’ll knock on the door to join in. I also enjoy contributing by chatting to the guests, who always understand exactly what I’m saying. I’m also the Pilot of ALLKND’s Brain Pilot program – I do everything I can to save lives. In my spare time I love helping out local businesses like The Dog Mum, and appearing in The Good Room’s documentary with video in a theatre-turned-dog-park, Let’s Be Friends Furever, presented by Brisbane Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse!

THERAPY PUP IN TRAINING

with THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA

I am a long-legged burst of vibrant energy who can scale a kitchen bench in a blink! I’m not in the studio often I’m still working on my Therapy Dogs Australia training. My older sister, Evie, has said I’ll need to jump and sing less in order to pass the Therapy Dogs Australia assessment, which I guess makes sense. I’m enjoying practicing. I melt into any space just to get a cuddle and I just love being with humans! Hopefully I’ll see you as a guest in the studio soon!

Clove

THERAPY DOG IN TRAINING

with THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA

Hi everyone! My name is Clove and I’m an 8-year-old border collie mix. Most people mistake me for a puppy because I have a lot of energy, but I’m smart too. Although I can get spooked sometimes, I’m curious about a lot of things and absolutely LOVE to sniff around. If you like to play, then I’m always free for a game, but if you prefer cuddles, I’m here for that too. I like to paw back to make sure you know how much I appreciate it. You’ll see me in the Studio most Mondays and Wednesdays – I can’t wait to say hello!

Alfee

PAW-SITIVE CONCIERGE

in TRAINING

Our cheeky little Shih Tzu cross, Alfee, takes his role as Concierge very seriously (well… most of the time). You’ll usually find him greeting clients at the door, showing off his best tricks for a pat, or keeping an eye on the waiting room to make sure everyone feels welcome and at ease.

With his playful personality and gentle nature, Alfee has a knack for bringing a smile to even the busiest of days. He’s an important part of The Mindful Collective studio, reminding us all to slow down, connect, and enjoy life’s simple joys.

PRACTICE MANAGER
GCBU / DIPLOMA IN PRACTICE MANAGEMENT
CURRENTLY COMPLETING MBAL

Life has taught me the importance of positive mental health. I am passionate about my role within TMC and am dedicated to supporting those who dedicate their work-life to making a positive impact on others’ lives. My role here at TMC has allowed me to combine my extensive work history in allied health management with my passion for mindfulness and mental health awareness. Having worked in the area in the past, I am thrilled to be back working within the Paddington community.

Outside of the studio, I am completing my Masters in Business Administration, and am married with four children, aged from 19-to 5 years old; needless to say, Life’s Busy but Great!!  When my head is not deep in books, cleaning or cooking, you will find me enjoying time in my vegetable gardens; country music playing and a glass of wine close by.

ADMIN ASSISTANT
BPSYSC (HONS)

Hello, my name is Elyse! I am a part of the lovely TMC administration team. I am typically at my happiest when I am playing guitar and piano, photo and video editing, and spending time with my family! I recently completed my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at the University of Queensland. I have always been passionate about mental health, with particular interests in self-compassion, values-based living, and mindfulness. As a racial/ethnic minority myself, I am also passionate about advocating for diversity and inclusion. I am so fortunate to work in an environment like TMC, and I am so excited to interact with all the lovely humans who come into the studio (or gives us a call)!

IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF MINDS.

The Mindful Collective is a team of passionate and empowered people who seek to inspire mindful change in the world. We individually and collectively stand for equality, inclusion and diversity because without difference we cannot innovate. We recognise that unearned privilege exists as well as the impact this has on those without it, including in science and the study of human behaviour. We acknowledge that words are just that, unless followed by action.
As such we have implemented the following:
  • Culturally appropriate evidence-based practice
  • Normalising the asking of pronouns and identifiers
  • Including the impacts of unearned privilege on the wellbeing of those without it in treatment planning
  • Advocacy work within mental health, legal and education systems
  • Curiously seeking additional training, perspectives and knowledge
  • Actively seeking diverse and different voices for our socials, membership and events. This extends to actively sharing the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those from culturally different backgrounds and members of the LGBTIQIA+ community
  • Continuing to pursue diverse hiring policies
We are here to get it right, not to be right. Different voices and perspectives are welcome and encouraged in our space.
