Who we are and what we do

THE TMC STORY IS A DELIGHTFUL ONE, AND ONE THAT WE HOPE WILL GROW MORE AND MORE OVER TIME – BRANCHING INTO CHAPTERS, NOVELS AND CHEEKY PODCAST EPISODES. IT’S A STORY THAT I AM SO PROUD TO SHARE.

Welcome to The Mindful Collective! I’m Amy Kate, director and principal psychologist. At TMC, we apply an entrepreneurial approach when advocating for wellbeing practices; across multiple platforms and through many innovative product creations and service delivery models. I invite you to join our collective in whatever capacity nourishes your soul – whether that be through our socials channels, coming to our events, joining our workshops, or spending time with our wonderful therapists one-on-one.

It devastates me to see people suffering unnecessarily, and often just because they haven’t found the right tools, strategies or perspectives that suit them, or their challenges in life. Everyone is unique – a one size fits all strategy just doesn’t cut it. Advocating for the use of mindfulness and compassion (including other wonderful stress-management techniques) and making them beautiful, accessible and relatable is what continues to inspire the development of The Mindful Collective.

COUNSELLOR
MCOUNS.

I’m Ash, a counsellor working full time with The Mindful Collective. My goal is to provide 1:1 support to people who want to build more value aligning joy and self-compassion into their lives. I have a Masters in Counselling from Monash University. My feminism-aligning values make me super passionate about positively contributing to underserved areas in women’s healthcare, and so I have completed further studies with a Certificate in Perinatal Infant Mental Health. This taught me how to further support new parents transition into parenthood and set their infants up with the best foundation for social, emotional and relational development. I am also completing further education with the Gottman Institute in relationship counselling. If you’re lucky you’ll visit us in the studio on a day when I have my Golden Retriever/Border Collie dog Beanie with me – together we’re a fully qualified Therapy Dog Handler team with Therapy Dogs Australia.

I work with individuals aged 16 and over, couples, and families. I look forward to meeting you!

PSYCHOLOGIST
MPSYCH (ED & DEV) / BPSYCH(HONS) / MAPS

I’m Johanna! a Psychologist at The Mindful Collective Women’s Health Hub in Paddington. I hold a Masters in Educational and Developmental Psychology and have recently moved back to Brisbane from Canberra where I was working in a boutique perinatal clinic with parents and parents to be! I value a warm and empathic approach and am incredibly passionate about working with perinatal mental health concerns, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, adjustment and relationship difficulties.

I also have experience in the education system where I worked closely with young people and families, with a focus on early intervention.

I have a particular interest in the area of attachment, self-compassion, and mindfulness and use these evidence based practices to  inform the way I work with clients at TMC!

I am currently accepting clients aged 16 and above and I am a LGBTIQ+ communities friendly practitioner.

PRACTICE MANAGER
BPsychSci

Hi! My name is Kristin and I am the Practice Manager at The Mindful Collective. When I am not in the studio, you will find me studying or with a glass of champagne in my hand. I have completed a Bachelors in Psychological Science and am looking forward to furthering my education further.
I am incredibly passionate about all things Women’s Health and have had the privilege of working alongside some of Brisbane’s leading Women’s health specialists. I am a huge advocate for ensuring women of all ages feel appropriately educated on their health and that there is no one size fits all approach to healthcare.

ADMIN ASSISTANT

BPsySc (Hons)

Hi! My name is Kate, and I am an admin assistant here at The Mindful Collective. In my spare time I enjoy being outside, whether that’s going for a hike, having a picnic, or taking my pup for a walk.

I have a strong passion for mental health, particularly around raising awareness for anxiety, depression and trauma. I value the normalisation of mental health, and believe that it should be a more widely talked about topic in the community.

I hold a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Hons) and hope to further my education in the future.

THERAPY PUP
THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA
LEVEL TWO

I am a self-care inspiration! I encourage everyone to accept (even love) themselves as much as I love them! I spend each morning roaming around different dog parks with the Maddogs and Englishmen team and I’m in Therapy Dog mode when I arrive back in the studio (after a quick snack of course). You’ll notice I’m a keen cuddle and love a nap however, sometimes I like to surprise everyone with the zoomies – I’m surprisingly fast, bouncy and agile! You’ll probably hear that I have a sixth sense for people who need a snuggle – it’s true. My dream is to inspire more self-compassion in the people I hang out with, with a splash of humour.

If you’re keen to find out more about my training, check out Therapy Dogs Australia!

THERAPY PUP

THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA

LEVEL ONE

Hey there, I’m Beanie! I am a Border Collie x Golden Retriever nicknamed the Curious Fluff Nugget by the humans who love me most. I inspire humans to be even more curious by always taking in everything around me. I love people and will always be up for a cuddle (but beware, you might come away looking fluffy like me). I am a Therapy Pup qualified with Therapy Dogs Australia.

IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF MINDS.

The Mindful Collective is a team of passionate and empowered people who seek to inspire mindful change in the world. We individually and collectively stand for equality, inclusion and diversity because without difference we cannot innovate. We recognise that unearned privilege exists as well as the impact this has on those without it, including in science and the study of human behaviour. We acknowledge that words are just that, unless followed by action.
As such we have implemented the following:
  • Culturally appropriate evidence-based practice
  • Normalising the asking of pronouns and identifiers
  • Including the impacts of unearned privilege on the wellbeing of those without it in treatment planning
  • Advocacy work within mental health, legal and education systems
  • Curiously seeking additional training, perspectives and knowledge
  • Actively seeking diverse and different voices for our socials, membership and events. This extends to actively sharing the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those from culturally different backgrounds and members of the LGBTIQIA+ community
  • Continuing to pursue diverse hiring policies
We are here to get it right, not to be right. Different voices and perspectives are welcome and encouraged in our space.
