Who we are and what we do

THE TMC STORY IS A DELIGHTFUL ONE, AND ONE THAT WE HOPE WILL GROW MORE AND MORE OVER TIME – BRANCHING INTO CHAPTERS, NOVELS AND CHEEKY PODCAST EPISODES. IT’S A STORY THAT I AM SO PROUD TO SHARE.

Welcome to The Mindful Collective! I’m Amy Kate, director and principal psychologist. At TMC, we apply an entrepreneurial approach when advocating for wellbeing practices; across multiple platforms and through many innovative product creations and service delivery models. I invite you to join our collective in whatever capacity nourishes your soul – whether that be through our socials channels, coming to our events, joining our workshops, or spending time with our wonderful therapists one-on-one.

It devastates me to see people suffering unnecessarily, and often just because they haven’t found the right tools, strategies or perspectives that suit them, or their challenges in life. Everyone is unique – a one size fits all strategy just doesn’t cut it. Advocating for the use of mindfulness and compassion (including other wonderful stress-management techniques) and making them beautiful, accessible and relatable is what continues to inspire the development of The Mindful Collective.

I’m the Owner and Director of The Mindful Collective! I’m passionate about applying evidence-based practice to help female-identifying people thrive with gritty self-compassion – turns out self-care is more than just having a bubble bath!! I work closely with little Evie, my dog-daughter and studio Therapy Dog. I’m also the Director of Curriculum for the charity, ALLKND (including GRLKND and Brain Pilot). PSYCHOLOGIST
MPSYCH (ED & DEV) / BPSYCH(HONS) / MAPS

I’m Johanna! a Psychologist at The Mindful Collective Women’s Health Hub in Paddington. I hold a Masters in Educational and Developmental Psychology and have recently moved back to Brisbane from Canberra where I was working in a boutique perinatal clinic with parents and parents to be! I value a warm and empathic approach and am incredibly passionate about working with perinatal mental health concerns, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, adjustment and relationship difficulties.

I also have experience in the education system where I worked closely with young people and families, with a focus on early intervention.

I have a particular interest in the area of attachment, self-compassion, and mindfulness and use these evidence based practices to  inform the way I work with clients at TMC!

I am currently accepting clients aged 16 and above and I am a LGBTIQ+ communities friendly practitioner.

PSYCHOLOGIST
(BPSYCH / GDSc)

Hi! I’m Caitlin, I am a Psychologist at the Mindful Collective. I am passionate about developmental and neuropsychology as well as working together to achieve your therapeutic goals. I draw from an eclectic framework working with a range of theories.
My therapy approach is very person-centred, I really value empowerment and knowledge holding these values in mind for each individual I work with. I have a strong interest in working with anxiety, ADHD, OCD and perinatal presentations. At TMC I am currently accepting adolescents and young adults.

When I am not exploring my interests in psychology you can find me watching paranormal, conspiracy and treasure hunting videos.

THERAPY PUP
THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA
LEVEL TWO

I am a self-care inspiration! I encourage everyone to accept (even love) themselves as much as I love them! I spend each morning roaming around different dog parks with the Maddogs and Englishmen team and I’m in Therapy Dog mode when I arrive back in the studio (after a quick snack of course). You’ll notice I’m a keen cuddle and love a nap however, sometimes I like to surprise everyone with the zoomies – I’m surprisingly fast, bouncy and agile! You’ll probably hear that I have a sixth sense for people who need a snuggle – it’s true. My dream is to inspire more self-compassion in the people I hang out with, with a splash of humour.

THERAPY PUP IN TRAINING

I am a long-legged burst of vibrant energy! Although I’m not in the studio often as I am not quite old enough to wear the fancy ‘Therapy Dogs Australia’ coat, I keep the vibe up. Instead, I mostly spend time with my dad in his accounting office and partying with my bonus human sisters. My pupper sister, Evie, has said I’ll need to jump and sing less when I’m 1 year old and sitting my Therapy Dogs Australia assessment, which I guess makes sense. I’m enjoying finding my own way of connecting with guests in the studio and I can’t wait to meet you!

PRACTICE MANAGER

GRADDIPBUS, CERT IV PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

Life has taught me the importance of positive mental health. I am passionate about my role within TMC and am dedicated to supporting those who dedicate their work-life to making a positive impact on others’ lives. My role here at TMC has allowed me to combine my extensive work history in allied health management with my passion for mindfulness and mental health awareness. Having worked in the area in the past, I am thrilled to be back working within the Paddington community.

Outside of the studio, I am completing my Masters in Business Administration, and am married with four children, aged from 19-to 5 years old; needless to say, Life’s Busy but Great!!  When my head is not deep in books, cleaning or cooking, you will find me enjoying time in my vegetable gardens; country music playing and a glass of wine close by.

ADMIN ASSISTANT
BPsySc (Hons)

Hi, my name is Mina!
I am a part of the lovely administration team here at TMC. My passion for mental health stems from my multicultural background that offered me many opportunities to meet people from all over the world with various mental health struggles. I have been studying various topics in psychology since high school and hold a Bachelor in Psychology from UQ. Currently, I am completing my honours year with my main focus on compassion interventions! I hope to create and uphold the amazing environment that TMC has already created, which extends so much compassion and kindness to whoever walks in.
In my day to day, I love creating music, rock climbing and winding down with some relaxing incense.

ADMIN ASSISTANT
BPsySc (Hons)

Hello, my name is Elyse! I am a part of the lovely TMC administration team. I am typically at my happiest when I am playing guitar and piano, photo and video editing, and spending time with my family! I recently completed my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at the University of Queensland. I have always been passionate about mental health, with particular interests in self-compassion, values-based living, and mindfulness. As a racial/ethnic minority myself, I am also passionate about advocating for diversity and inclusion. I am so fortunate to work in an environment like TMC, and I am so excited to interact with all the lovely humans who come into the studio (or gives us a call)!

IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF MINDS.

The Mindful Collective is a team of passionate and empowered people who seek to inspire mindful change in the world. We individually and collectively stand for equality, inclusion and diversity because without difference we cannot innovate. We recognise that unearned privilege exists as well as the impact this has on those without it, including in science and the study of human behaviour. We acknowledge that words are just that, unless followed by action.
As such we have implemented the following:
  • Culturally appropriate evidence-based practice
  • Normalising the asking of pronouns and identifiers
  • Including the impacts of unearned privilege on the wellbeing of those without it in treatment planning
  • Advocacy work within mental health, legal and education systems
  • Curiously seeking additional training, perspectives and knowledge
  • Actively seeking diverse and different voices for our socials, membership and events. This extends to actively sharing the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those from culturally different backgrounds and members of the LGBTIQIA+ community
  • Continuing to pursue diverse hiring policies
We are here to get it right, not to be right. Different voices and perspectives are welcome and encouraged in our space.
