Who we are and what we do

THE TMC STORY IS A DELIGHTFUL ONE, AND ONE THAT WE HOPE WILL GROW MORE AND MORE OVER TIME – BRANCHING INTO CHAPTERS, NOVELS AND CHEEKY PODCAST EPISODES. IT’S A STORY THAT I AM SO PROUD TO SHARE.

Welcome to The Mindful Collective! I’m Amy Kate, director and principal psychologist. At TMC, we apply an entrepreneurial approach when advocating for wellbeing practices; across multiple platforms and through many innovative product creations and service delivery models. I invite you to join our collective in whatever capacity nourishes your soul – whether that be through our socials channels, coming to our events, joining our workshops, or spending time with our wonderful therapists one-on-one.

It devastates me to see people suffering unnecessarily, and often just because they haven’t found the right tools, strategies or perspectives that suit them, or their challenges in life. Everyone is unique – a one size fits all strategy just doesn’t cut it. Advocating for the use of mindfulness and compassion (including other wonderful stress-management techniques) and making them beautiful, accessible and relatable is what continues to inspire the development of The Mindful Collective.

Shortly following the arrival of our self-care queen Evie the Italian Greyhound, we welcomed Tim and then Tayla, Kristin, Alana and Maggie on board. They, along with our team of therapy assistants who make our workshops possible, help us spread the TMC mission further than I could ever imagine. This means more people just like you can be supported in leading happier, healthier lives.

And, well, we’ve continued growing and flourishing and at the end of 2019 we moved into our own studio on Latrobe Terrace in Paddington! Here, we also welcomed our radiant counsellor Bronte, Student Counsellor Ash and a sprinkling of incredible local businesses who we adore.

THERAPY PUP
THERAPY DOGS AUSTRALIA
LEVEL ONE

I am a self-care inspiration! I encourage everyone to accept (even love) themselves as much as I love them! I spend each morning roaming around different dog parks with the Maddogs and Englishmen team and I’m in Therapy Dog mode when I arrive back in the studio (after a quick snack of course). You’ll notice I’m a keen cuddle and love a nap however, sometimes I like to surprise everyone with the zoomies – I’m surprisingly fast, bouncy and agile! You’ll probably hear that I have a sixth sense for people who need a snuggle – it’s true. My dream is to inspire more self-compassion in the people I hang out with, with a splash of humour.

If you’re keen to find out more about my training, check out Therapy Dogs Australia!

COUNSELLOR
BBEHAVSC (PSYCH) / MCOUNS (HONS) / ACA (LEVEL 2)
IAHA MEMBER

Hi there! As an ACA registered Counsellor I pride myself on being the best listener you will ever meet, and I’m pretty good at puns to boot! My main focus is the way our life stories are formed by society, by others and especially by ourselves and how to reverse the effects of a negative story told one too many times. I have a strong counselling framework rooted in a combination of Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, but believe the most important part of a therapeutic relationship is trust.

STUDENT COUNSELLOR
MONASH UNIVERSITY

I’m Ash, a student counsellor completing my final year of Masters at Monash University. My goal is to provide 1:1 support to people who want to build more joy and self-compassion into their lives, while also helping them to gently let go of things that are no longer value aligning. I am offering Student Counselling sessions at The Mindful Collective under the supervision of Amy Kate until mid 2021, where I will have completed my placement and Masters Degree. I also work as a writer and designer and live locally with my fiance, cat, and puppy.

PRACTICE MANAGER
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID ACCREDITED

Hi! My name is Kristin and I am the Practice Manager at The Mindful Collective. When I am not in the studio, you will find me studying my degree in psychological science or with a glass of champagne in my hand.
I am incredibly passionate about Women’s health and have had the privilege of working alongside some of Brisbane’s leading Women’s health specialists for the past four years. I am a huge advocate for ensuring women of all ages feel appropriately educated on their health and that there is no one size fits all approach to healthcare.

ADMINISTRATION / THERAPY ASSISTANT
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID ACCREDITED

Hi! I’m Alana, and I’m lucky enough to be an Admin and Therapy Assistant at The Mindful Collective. You’ll typically find me hard at work developing our amazing workshops, doing administrative tasks, or cuddling Evie. I’m extremely passionate about psychological well-being and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.
I absolutely love to learn, so I recently completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science and intend to continue developing my therapeutic skills. Outside of work, my favourite hobbies are reading and baking.
I also hold a current Mental Health First Aid accreditation.

THERAPY ASSISTANT
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID ACCREDITED

Hi there! My name is Maggie and I am a therapy assistant (and Evie cuddler) at the wonderful Mindful Collective. I have a passion for spreading awareness and knowledge about mental health in a fun, mindful and positive way. Which is why you will most likely see my face in anything workshop related.I have finished my Bachelor of Psychological Science at the University of Queensland and have had the amazing opportunity to be a part of Amy Kate’s mission to inspire mindful and compassionate change. I cannot wait to help guide you along your mindful journey.

IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF MINDS.

The Mindful Collective is a team of passionate and empowered people who seek to inspire mindful change in the world. We individually and collectively stand for equality, inclusion and diversity because without difference we cannot innovate. We recognise that unearned privilege exists as well as the impact this has on those without it, including in science and the study of human behaviour. We acknowledge that words are just that, unless followed by action.
As such we have implemented the following:
  • Culturally appropriate evidence-based practice
  • Normalising the asking of pronouns and identifiers
  • Including the impacts of unearned privilege on the wellbeing of those without it in treatment planning
  • Advocacy work within mental health, legal and education systems
  • Curiously seeking additional training, perspectives and knowledge
  • Actively seeking diverse and different voices for our socials, membership and events. This extends to actively sharing the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those from culturally different backgrounds and members of the LGBTIQIA+ community
  • Continuing to pursue diverse hiring policies
We are here to get it right, not to be right. Different voices and perspectives are welcome and encouraged in our space.
